Decorating For Christmas

In Christmasses past, I didn't always enjoy the festive holiday. In a past post I wrote why Christmas wasn't my favorite holiday for the longest time. This year, my family made plans for us to meet in the Central Valley. My eldest son and his husband invited my companion and I to stay in an Airbnb that they had rented out for over a week prior to Christmas. So because we will be able to spend the holidays together, I decided that I would host the morning Christmas brunch at my Los Banos home. I thought for this reason that I wouldn't go all out decorating our home in Mill Valley for the holidays, since we wouldn't be here. However, after thinking about it and how much I really do enjoy the holidays, I ended up decorating three trees in the Mill Valley house (one in the den, the dining room and the living room). Because we wouldn't be here, I did not put up the 12ft tree I had bought last year for the home, because it is a lot of work for short little me. I actually got most of the house decorated soon after the Thanksgiving holiday -- inclusive the the downstairs bedrooms. I decided that even though the actual Christmas holiday wouldn't be spent here, I still wanted my companion and I to be able to enjoy the festivities.

So this past weekend, since we will be utilizing our family home in Los Banos for Christmas Day, I decided to go down for the weekend to decorate the house. I had previously ordered a new pencil 6ft Christmas tree to decorate for when I got there this weekend. Our other tree had gone out a couple years ago, so my daughter bought us another tree to replace it. Our Los Banos home is much smaller than the Mill Valley home and even though all our family won't be able to spend the holiday together, I didn't want the presents to clutter the living room there, thus the pencil tree. I bought one just like it for our Mill Valley dining room to replace the 12ft one that I wouldn't be putting up this year. After I finished decorating the Los Banos house, I felt like it wasn't decorated enough, so I went to Home Depot and Target and got some additional enhancements. So this year in all, I decorated four trees. The center tree above is the one that is in the Los Banos house.

I rarely use tinsel garland, but this year I used it on the Los Banos tree. So I decided to use it in more areas at the home to give it a more sparkly Christmas decor.

When both houses were fully decorated, I was satisfied with this year's decorations. I'm even putting garland on the outside doors this year. I got inspired by my son in love -- his looks more like a Hallmark Movie than mine. The stores now sell garland that has twinkly lights that are battery operated so you don't have to worry about plugs and such. I'll be doing my Mill Valley home door tomorrow.

Update: Do you notice I have what I call Jesus doors at my Los Banos house? All the doors have a cross on them to remind me of Jesus whether I’m coming or going.
