My Visual Arts
As long as I can remember, I have always colored, drawn or painted. In 2006, my precious angel of a daughter decided she wanted to spread her wings and become an independent. Unfortunately, it was not an agreed upon exit. My daughter and I are very close, however, I raised her to be very assertive and self motivated to a fault. Like her Mama in her youth, she too was a rebel without a cause. I'm happy to say she matured to be an amazing young woman. She did things a little harder, but ultimately, she accomplished everything she set out to do for herself. I'm so proud of her.
But in 2006, my heart was broken and I pined for her like a crazy lady. Finally, I pulled up my big girl panties and decided I needed to do something to get me out of my funk. So, I turned her room into my art studio. After all, it was a huge room with its own bathroom and tiled floors. It was perfect for an art studio. My eldest son has always supported my ventures when it came to bringing me happiness, so he indulged my new found studio and art by purchasing me a beautiful French style easel. This is the easel I continue to use to this day.
As I was researching about the different art mediums I would try, my interest peaked to looking at others artists work to see what style seemed to be the popular art during this time period. I hopped on Facebook and Twitter. In doing so, I met so many wonderful artists, but one in particular caught my eye. Her art was mesmerizing and spoke to me in so many ways (Robin Maria Pedrero). Her art to this day is mesmerizing to me still. In fact, my companion purchased a large beautiful piece for me just a couple months ago. From 2006 though now, I own a large collection of her original art. Understand at the time, my art sucked. However, this wonderful light of a woman kept encouraging me to keep painting and to try different techniques. She also encouraged me at some point to sell my art. To this day, you can see her influence in my art. Because of her, there was a period where I actually was doing pretty good at commissioning some pieces. During a short period of time, I had painted hundreds of paintings, most of which I gave away to family, friends and coworkers. Some of these individuals actually commissioned me to paint their concepts. I really enjoyed painting those pieces and appreciated their support and encouragement of my art.
My blog today is dedicated to sharing different mediums I've used from 2006 through now. My art has gone in many different directions I've worked with acrylic and canvas, painting stones, ceramics, papier mache, sculpting clay, and mosaic type pieces (my crosses). It's been said that the longer you paint, the better you'll get. I've taken art classes in school, but I will give warning, I don't follow the rules -- there are rules in art to which I was not familiar.
