Born With A Purpose
Those who are living and breathing today, we were all conceived and were born. In what ways, there were different circumstances even in our beginning. One thing I know I am assured of is that, I was born with a purpose. I've always thought as a young child that I never asked to be born, so why was I? As if I had a choice in the matter. I find my comfort in the words of the Bible that I was thought of even before I was conceived. That God knows everything about me and my existence and that he has a plan for me. Just as it is for you and is written to be so. Jeremiah 1:5
As in previous blogs, I have shared that I have four grown children. I didn't have a plan nor did I know how many children I would bring forth in this life, but due to the direction my life went, I was given the privilege of motherhood. My pregnancies were complicated as I didn't know that I would be high risk with each one. With my first born, my water broke early and my contractions had to be induced. It was such a painful 21 hours of intense labor. In the end, my son was not going to come out naturally and I had to endure a cesarean. This birth set the precedent for my other two births, which were also cesareans. One of the births was a set of twin boys. Do you know there is a belief out there amongst women that because you had a cesarean that somehow you didn't experience real childbirth. Let me be the first to tell you that philosophy is total hogwash. My first two pregnancies were fairly easy, until the surgical procedures. I endured tremendous pain for weeks after they were born and still had to take care of my newborns. Thank goodness after my children were born, my Mom and Mother In Law would help me for a week or two after, until I regained my strength enough to take care of them. My last pregnancy was very high risk and I had to go on bed rest from 5 months until they were born six weeks earlier than they should have been. Childbirth is an experience in itself, no matter if it is done surgically or naturally. Believe me, I've heard the stories from my friends who have had natural birth and THEY ARE MY HEROES. I saw my precious daughter give birth to my granddaughter and I saw what she had to endure and witnessed her strength as she pushed her baby through the birth canal. Every one of us had our own personal birth experiences. I often think had my son been born in the early centuries, when medical technology was not even a thing, how I probably wouldn't have survived the birth. I thank God daily for my children.
Then the harder part after birth comes with raising the children to the best of our God given ability. As a mother, you always wonder what will my child's journey be. To those who have had the privilege of having a father figure by your side to help you through this process, you are so blessed. I had always wanted that for myself, to not have my children grow up from a broken home. Unfortunately, this is an area that was challenging for me, not only for myself, but also my children. I admire the individuals who have taken the role on as parent, but actually were not part of their child's conception -- your love is huge and selfless.
Throughout the Bible we read about different ways and ages of their parents of children who were born. We read of their beginnings and their stories. Obviously the one that has the most impact in my life is the Birth of Jesus Christ. That's a whole blog in itself. Can you imagine what Mary and Joseph had to go through? Also in the Bible (The Word) we read about the plan of salvation and how we need to believe and accept the free gift offered to us through Jesus Christ -- to be reborn again. I believe each one of us is part of that whole plan. We each have our own chapters and journeys. (John 3:3-8; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
As we go through life, we discover our purpose here on earth. I have had several purposes-- a child of God foremost, a follower of Jesus, a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a niece, a cousin, a friend, a neighbor, a wife, a provider, a caregiver -- to name a few. Along with your purpose, you will discover your gifts to move forward with your purpose.
Romans 8:28 (NIV) "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
